A part-time soldier with the Royal Irish Regiment was charged today with the murder of a pub customer shot dead having a late night drink.

Lorry driver Glen Stronge, 27, whose address was given as his battalion’s barracks at The Deanery, Clogher, Co Tyrone, was remanded in custody when he appeared before a magistrate at Cookstown.

He was accused with the murder of Colin Foy, also 27, from Mullaghfad Road, Fivemiletown who was shot dead at the town’s Four Ways Hotel on Sunday night.

Today’s hearing was told that Stronge, dressed in a dark suit, made no reply when he was charged.

An RUC officer told his solicitor Aubrey Murray there was no evidence to suggest Stronge was connected to a paramilitary organisation.

Stronge is due to appear at a court in Omagh, Co Tyrone on November 20.
