There was plenty of movement but little overall growth in the ISEQ index of Irish shares today, which was up 6.67 points to 2,971.96 by close of trade today.
The financials all did well, with Allied Irish Banks leading the way, climbing 16c to €1.92. Irish Life and Permanent was not far behind, closing up 15c to €4.90. Bank of Ireland improved 8c to €1.99.
DCC enjoyed the biggest gain of the day, soaring 69c to €19.27. FBD (up 27c to €6.67) and Tullow Oil (up 25c to €13.75) also enjoyed a good day. Elan was the other significant gain of the day, adding 11c to finish on €4.10.
Some large losses from a pair of major players dragged the overall index down however. After some impressive gains this week, CRH fell 59c to €17.45. Kerry Group slid 47c to €19.75.
