North to recommence food exporting

The North has once again been granted regionalisation status, which means that the exporting of livestock and foodstuffs can recommence after the outbreak of the foot and mouth disease.

The North has once again been granted regionalisation status, which means that the exporting of livestock and foodstuffs can recommence after the outbreak of the foot and mouth disease.

The Minister for Agriculture in the Northern Assembly, Brid Rodgers, has welcomed the decision as excellent news.

Ms Rodgers says that over 250,000 blood tests have now been carried out by officials in the North and there have been no reported cases of the virus over the 30-day waiting period.

Although the livestock markets will remain closed until the virus has been completely eradicated from the UK, Ms Rodgers says she is delighted with the news.
