The case of a man accused of the murder of a toddler during an arson attack on a house in Darndale last year continues today in the Central Criminal Court.

The jury was told yesterday that Gerard Redmond, 36, of Ferrycarrig Park, Fairfield, Coolock, threw a petrol bomb into the house to take revenge on a member of the family for assaulting him earlier that night.

Mr Redmond has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Adam Lieghio, who was a month short of his second birthday when he died in the arson attack on July 23, 2000.

The prosecution alleged that Mr Redmond went to the house in Buttercup Park with a petrol bomb, lit it and threw it into the kitchen of the house.

Despite the efforts by neighbours and family, young Adam Lieghio died of smoke and gas inhalation.

The case continues before Mr Justice O’Sullivan.
