Two German climbers were killed when the ice shelf they were scaling collapsed in the French Alps, the mountain rescue service said.

Two German climbers were killed when the ice shelf they were scaling collapsed in the French Alps, the mountain rescue service said.

The climbers, whose identities were not released, fell 2,600 feet from the peak they were climbing with three French climbers, who survived the accident unscathed. The accident occurred yesterday near Mont Blanc.

The two climbers’ bodies were carried to Switzerland by helicopter.
