Anthrax alert hits government buildings

The Department of the Taoiseach in government buildings has become the scene of the latest anthrax alert.

A package containing white powder was apparently delivered to the offices today and opened.

A government spokesperson said emergency procedures were immediately followed and a decontamination unit and other services were called to the scene.

Government sources are playing down the incident, saying such alerts are to be expected in the current climate.
