Germany: Nine killed in fire at homeless shelter

A fire at a shelter for the homeless in eastern Germany killed nine people today.

A fire at a shelter for the homeless in eastern Germany killed nine people today.

The fire broke out before dawn among shipping containers used to house homeless people in the eastern town of Halberstadt.

The cause was not immediately clear, said police spokesman Eckhard Timpe.

A further five people were injured in the fire and taken to hospital, Timpe said.
