An Afghan airliner plane carrying Muslim pilgrims was hijacked in midair today, but the takeover ended when the plane landed in Dubai.

All on board were safe, said the president of Ariana airlines, the Afghan national carrier.

The hijackers were removed from the plane after it touched down in Dubai, said Khalil Ahmad Najimyar. “We are sure that our plane is safe. All the pilgrims are safe.

"There were no injuries and nobody was killed,” he said

Najimyar said the hijackers had been removed from the plane. It was not clear how many people were on the flight, and the motive for the hijacking was also unclear.

The plane was carrying pilgrims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, with a scheduled stopover in Dubai.
