Irish cinema’s latest success is 'Once' (Icon, €24.99), now available on DVD.
Glen Hansard plays a busker who meets up with street seller Marketa Irglova. They both discover a strong musical connection, but it’s the way the dialogue unfolds — mainly in song — that lifts the film above the ordinary.
Hansard, lead singer with The Frames, and Irglova are a revelation as the unnamed characters, and for director John Carney, whose film has deservedly won over US audiences, this is a little gem.
