Anthrax threats from anti-abortionists

Abortion clinics in the US say they have received anthrax threats via Federal Express from anti-abortion rights groups.

Abortion clinics in the US say they have received anthrax threats via Federal Express from anti-abortion rights groups.

Clinics say the senders forged billing numbers and the return addresses. A note accompanying one of the letters said, "You have ignored our earlier warning, so now you will pay - enclosed is anthrax - the real thing - very high quality."

The threats were signed by "The Army of God, Virginia Dare Cell", a frequent cover name used by many anti-abortion extremists.

Packages, containing either white or brown powders, were sent to 280 clinics in October. The FBI opened a wide-ranging investigation into the threats and expects to have test results on the packages available within two days.
