A Drogheda man is due to be sentenced today for sexually assaulting one woman and raping another less than two hours later.
Christopher Farrell of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda was convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of the two attacks in Co Louth, in September 2007.
The trial heard Farrell offered a woman a lift home from a night out and she awoke to him sexually assaulting her in the car which he had parked in a field.
He dropped her home and went back into town where he picked up another woman, raping her in a country lane barely two hours later.
A garda involved with the case commented after the jury's guilty verdict that “the streets are a safer place” now that Farrell is in custody.
During garda interviews the accused claimed both incidents were consensual but later called both attacks 'a drunken mistake'.
The 27-year-old is due to be sentenced this morning.
