Gardaí in Cork have released a man arrested earlier this week in connection with a hostage-taking and attempted armed robbery in the city.

Gardaí in Cork have released a man arrested earlier this week in connection with a hostage-taking and attempted armed robbery in the city.

The man was questioned about an alleged attempt to extort money from businessman Gary O'Donovan, who was held hostage along with his wife Katie for a number of hours at his home in Rochestown on Monday night.

Meanwhile, two men who appeared in court last night charged with falsely imprisoning the couple were remanded in custody for a further week today.
