A civilian convoy was hit by a roadside bomb today in southern Basra, police and British officials said.

A civilian convoy was hit by a roadside bomb today in southern Basra, police and British officials said.

The bomb hit a convoy of four cars at around 9am (7am Irish time), seriously injuring one man, said Basra Police Lieutenant Colonel Karim Al-Zaidi.

Military spokesman Major Charlie Mayo confirmed that a civilian contractor was injured and taken to a nearby British military hospital. He did not know the nationality of the wounded man.
