A man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Co Cork last weekend after which a 57-year-old man died.

A man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Co Cork last weekend after which a 57-year-old man died.

Patsy Deasy was attacked outside the Red Cove Inn in Mahon in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mr Deasy, who worked for Cork City Council, underwent emergency surgery at Cork University Hospital, but died on Monday afternoon.

Investigating officers arrested a man in his mid 20s in the Mahon area this morning.

He is being held for questioning at the Bridewell garda station in Cork under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
