Cork's Billy Twomey took a third place this afternoon in the third round of the British Open Show Jumping Championship at the four-star show in Birmingham, England.
Twomey, who celebrates his 31st birthday later this month, rode a clear round on Sue Davies's eight year-old grey stallion 'Pikap', but was unable to match the speed of the British winner Robert Smith aboard the formidable Irish-bred gelding 'Mr. Springfield'.
Last night Jessica Kurten won the second round of the Championship aboard Lady Georgina Forbes's 'Quibell' in the 1m55 jump-off competition, while Shane Breen and Billy Twomey took top ten places in the first round on Thursday. The final is on Sunday afternoon.
