Car workers across Europe will stage a day of action this week ranging from strikes to a mass sickie to protest at the ending of car production at one of Vauxhall's UK factories.
Workers employed by General Motors, will stage a day of action to demonstrate against the closure of the Luton Assembly plant and at job losses elsewhere in Europe.
The shock decision to stop building the Vectra in Luton will cost 2,000 direct jobs and thousands of others at component firms.
Workers on the continent will take industrial action, including strikes, while in the UK Vauxhall employees are expected to take a day off work sick.
Union members at Luton and at Vauxhall's other factory in Ellesmere Port have not been balloted on industrial action so any strike would be unlawful.
But word has spread that the most effective action would be a "mass sickie".
The action follows a huge march and rally in Luton attended by over 10,000 people, including car workers from across Europe and from other firms including Ford and Rover.
Union officials told the rally that General Motors would face a sustained campaign of action if it did not reverse its decision.
