A 24-year old man has appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged with assault.

The man was accused of assaulting Anthony Kelly in the city yesterday.

Mr Kelly is the brother of the former councillor Michael Kelly who dies from a gunshot wound to the head last May.

Judge Michael Reilly refused bail on the grounds that the accused man might re-offend, and remanded the accused to appear before the same court again next week.
