The Oireachtas committee investing the CIE mini-CTC scandal has adjourned indefinitely following last week’s High Court ruling that made such investigations illegal.

The Oireachtas committee investing the CIE mini-CTC scandal has adjourned indefinitely following last week’s High Court ruling that made such investigations illegal.

The High Court said Oireachtas inquiries cannot establish facts or express opinions that could damage citizens’ reputations.

The ruling was issued in relation to the Abbeylara inquiry into the killing of 27-year-old John Carthy by the gardai last year. The committee conducting that inquiry will meet later today to decide whether to mount an appeal in the Supreme Court.
