The Health Service Executive (HSE) is investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis caused by the deadly e-coli bacteria.

At least six people have fallen ill as a result of the outbreak, which may be linked to them eating contaminated food in Enniscrone, Co Sligo.

The HSE is working to identify the source and says it is concerned about a possible association between the infections and people who had been in Enniscrone between July 20 and August 20 this year.

However, it says the investigation is in the early stages and no conclusive findings have been made.

As a precautionary measure, the HSE says it would like to identify any members of the public who may have fallen ill after visiting or eating food in Enniscrone.
