The president of a secondary teachers union has launched a scathing attack on the government, accusing both coalition parties of breaking all election promises.
ASTI President Gerry Breslin says neither party would have been returned to power had they made clear their plans, including targeting children in terms of cuts to education, or new entrants to the public service.
Mr Breslin, speaking to Kfm, says Labour nor Fine Gael have made good on pledges that would have prevented these cuts, by implementing measures such as burning bondholders.
"The government got themselves elected by saying that they will solve this crisis. If they had said they'd solve this crisis on the back of children and young teachers in this country, then they wouldn't have been elected.
"They got elected on the promise they would solve this and do lots of other things. They promised to burn bondholders and do all this stuff, (they should) look back at their promises and carry out some of those. Maybe then they'll find some money."
