Kidman: 'I would have swapped success for happiness'

Nicole Kidman says she would still rather be happily married to Tom Cruise than have her successful Hollywood career.

Nicole Kidman says she would still rather be happily married to Tom Cruise than have her successful Hollywood career.

The actress has become one of the world's most bankable stars since splitting with Cruise.

The 35-year-old has admitted she would trade it all in for a happy marriage.

She told Vanity Fair she would have been content to make the odd film, like the 1995 black comedy To Die For, while concentrating on family life with Cruise.

"I didn't have to have a huge career. I would have liked to be able to make a To Die For occasionally and things that could stimulate me.

"And this makes me sad, but I still would probably choose a marriage and an intact family over my career," she said.

Kidman said she was plagued by guilt over the effect the divorce from Cruise was having on her children Isabella, nine, and Conor, seven.

"It means for the rest of my life I have to do things to protect and help them and make it up to them."

When the couple split in early 2001 she was so devastated her that at one point she lay weeping on the floor in the foetal position while her parents implored her to pull herself together.

Kidman, currently filming American Civil War drama Cold Mountain with Jude Law, said she hoped to fall in love again.
