Hartnett is not the most animated of actors; he really does make wooden logs in a wicket basket look lively. He is one of those actors whose elevation to the Hollywood A-List is a constant surprise.

Here, in a dismal re-make of the French classic, L'Appartement, Hartnett plays a banker who suddenly becomes obsessed with a woman spotted in a café; who might be more to him than he initially realises.

There is no forward drive to the plotting, which leaves Hartnett and his co-stars floundering to make anything of the storyline.
