Despite a slight thaw over the last 24 hours, the forecast over the next couple of days is pretty bleak.

Clerk of the course Tim Long said: “The forecast for this part of Britain makes pretty poor reading for the next 48 hours, depending on which one you look at.

“We are certainly going to get something from the sky, be it rain, sleet or snow. We’ll have a much better idea after Wednesday night where we stand which is why we are inspecting on Thursday morning.

“The temperatures are due to rise but they would need to do that pretty sharply.”
