Most people would like to die in their own home surrounded by their loved ones, according to a survey commissioned by the Irish Hospice Foundation.

Sixty-seven per cent of respondents to the survey said they wanted to be cared for at home if they were dying, with just one in 10 wishing to die in a hospital.

The reality is that every second Irish person dies in a hospital.

The survey also found that most Irish people had no arrangements in place for what should happen if they became terminally ill, while more than half have neither drawn up a will nor given it serious consideration.
