Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a 49-year-old man was murdered in north Dublin last night.
Two men armed with an automatic pistol fired a number of shots through the door of a mobile home at Saint Margaret's halting site in Ballymun shortly before 10pm.
The only person inside was a married man who has a number of children.
He was hit several times and was brought to the Mater hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Superintendent John Gilligan said investigating officers have a good idea of how the men fled the scene.
"We believe that the two people involved in the shooting incident left the caravan park, took a left and headed towards Finglas.
"They then abandoned their car, which we think is a dark-coloured Nissan Qashqai, and set it on fire.
"They then ran through bushes and climbed over a fence down onto the M50 and made their escape on the south-bound route."
Gardaí are now examining the burned out car and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A post mortem examination will be carried out on the victim's remains tomorrow morning.
