Coast Guard issues seasonal safety warning

The Irish Coast Guard has urged the public to be very careful going about water-based activities over the Christmas holidays.

The Irish Coast Guard has urged the public to be very careful going about water-based activities over the Christmas holidays.

"No matter what the water activity is, think safety and obey the basic rules," said a spokesman.

The advice comes as many people embark on Christmas swims.

The Coast Guard also warned the public not to attempt to go out on ice over any form of water.
