IMPACT to attend LRC talks, Aer Lingus 'considering its options'

IMPACT says it has accepted a recommendation to attend talks at the Labour Relations Commission in a bid to resolve the dispute with Aer Lingus over new rosters.

IBEC and ICTU made the recommendation following talks between the union and company this morning. Those talks were facilitated by IBEC and ICTU, who have now recommended the two sides in the dispute attend talks at the Labour Relations Commission to move towards a resolution.

Aer Lingus has not confirmed it will attend the LRC talks, but said: "We will continue to engage within the IBEC/ICTU recommended process with a view to achieving a speedy resolution."

However, IMPACT spokesman Bernard Harbour said it was his understanding that the company would attend the talks.

A number of workers have been removed from the payroll and Aer Lingus has been forced to hire planes and staff from other airlines as the rostering row continues.

Bernard Harbour said: "IMPACT hopes this is the beginning of a process that can lead to a resolution of this dispute…My understanding is that Aer Lingus will be over at the Labour Relations Commission this afternoon as well."
