Bollywood and Big Brother star Shilpa Shetty has spoken out about her parents' 2003 arrest for extortion, calling the incident the "worst day of my life" and insisting she will "never forgive" those who brought the "false" charges against her family.
Sunder and Sunanda Shetty are alleged to have hired a mafia hitman to threaten a businessman over outstanding payments relating to a 1998 sari advertising campaign which featured their actress daughter.
The Shettys will appear before a court later this year, and if found guilty the former reality TV star's parents could be jailed for several years.
The charges are based on telephone conversations that were secretly recorded between Shetty's parents and the gangsters they're alleged to have hired.
The Indian actress says: "Yes, there will be a court case (against my parents). But the allegations are all lies. Extortion! It's not our style.
"It's been distressing. The day my parents were arrested, charged with extortion and released on bail was the hardest day of my life. I can never forgive the people who did this to them."
