Newcastle have announced a precautionary inspection for 8.00am to determine whether tomorrow’s fixture can go ahead after a cold night was forecast.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong said: “I have spoken to the Met Office and they have told me there is a threat of frost overnight.

“The daytime temperature tomorrow is likely to be no more than three degrees in the morning, so it is sensible to have a look to cover our backs.

“It should only get to minus one overnight, which does not sound much, but there will be a strong wind and I’m told the frost could get in a bit.”
