1,000 homes to remain without power overnight

About 1,000 homes and businesses nationwide will be without power overnight as ESB crews try to restore power to areas hit by Storm Frank.

It could be a number of days before power is restored to parts of Cork, Wexford and Wicklow.

Around 4,000 properties are currently without power, with flooding hampering the repair efforts.

Bernadine Maloney says that crews are working on restoring power, but that it may take days in some parts.

"We expect that about 1,000 people will remain without power overnight.

"That's mainly in areas that are flooded, those areas are Macroom, Bandon, Enniscorthy, Wellington Bridge, Kilmore, Bridgetown and Arklow. So those areas are likely to remain without power overnight."
