British twin sisters have died in a car crash while on holiday with their family in Spain, sources said today.

Paria Najmi was killed instantly and her injured sister Galia died in hospital overnight after the accident in Navarra province on Wednesday.

The sisters were believed to be nine years old, according to reports.

Their father Homayoun Najmi was taken to hospital with his wife Farzaneh Heidari.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We can confirm the death of two British nationals in Navarra, northern Spain on August 11 and 12.

“We are aware of the hospitalisation of two other British nationals. We are providing consular assistance and are in close contact with the local authorities.”

The deaths come just three days after two British toddlers were killed in a car crash in Spain.

Two-year-old Amir Khan and his sister Amelle, aged one, died as a result of the accident near Briviesca in the province of Burgos.

Their British mother, Gemma Martello, was taken to hospital with injuries, along with the father, a French national, and two other children.

The crash happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday on the AP1 motorway, local traffic police said.

The family’s car, a Renault Espace, reportedly plunged down a grass bank at the side of a motorway after smashing through the central reservation.
