Wentworth start delayed by fog

Fog caused a delay to the start of the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth today.

Defending champion Paul Casey was due to be first out against American Jerry Kelly at 8.15am, but there was no way their clash could begin then.

A 20-minute hold-up was announced and players, officials and spectators waited to see if that was sufficient for the visibility to improve sufficiently.

Grateful for any sort of delay was Swede Niclas Fasth, who pulled out of the curtain-raising pro-am suffering from bronchitis.

Fasth was up against Argentina’s Andres Romero in the seventh of the eight first round ties, with the winner to face either six-time winner Ernie Els or 1999 champion Colin Montgomerie in the quarter-finals.
