Rovers held by Bohs

Having failed to win any of their previous five games against their arch-rivals in Tallaght Stadium, Bohemians earned a sweet point to hamper the champions’ title retentions hopes as they came from behind with ten men.

Rovers have now dropped two points behind leaders Sligo Rovers, though still with a game in hand.

Bohs started brightly without really threatening. But Rovers soon got on top and began to carve the openings once Billy Dennehy’s volley brought the first save of the night from Barry Murphy.

Terrific defending by Aidan Price and Robert Bayly in turn snuffed out the threat of Gary Twigg and Ronan Finn before Murphy made a save at full stretch from Gary O’Neill’s diving header on 26 minutes.

Rovers pressure told six minutes later, though. Dennehy whipped over their fifth corner of the game and skipper Dan Murray powered home the header unchallenged at the back post.

The game looked to have swung further in Rovers' favour a minute before the break when Killian Brennan hit a Rovers post from a free-kick and striker Aidan Downes, who’d won it, was then harshly sent off for diving in a challenge with Jim Paterson.

But Bohs channelled their angst well and battled back in the second half to score a fine equaliser on the hour mark.

Anto Flood got away on the left onto a long ball to cross and skipper Glenn Cronin arrived to score with a sidefooted volley.

Rovers had their chances to win it late on but Ciaran Kilduff headed wide while Dennehy blazed over the bar in stoppage time.
