Travis frontman Fran Healy is horrified by the "unbelievable" conditions people are living in in Sudan's troubled Darfur region.

The Scottish Turn singer is currently spending a week in the troubled African country after contributing to Band Aid 20's single Do They Know It's Christmas?, which is raising money for the people of Sudan.

Healy said yesterday: "The main thing is water. Everywhere that we have wandered, every single person we have met, the first thing that we have asked is: 'What are the conditions like here?' and they just don't have any water.

"We went to a borehole yesterday, which is a man-made hole in the ground."

"The water is absolutely minging but people come from fours hours' away to drink from it."

Government forces and Arab militia have been fighting ethnic minority rebels in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan since February 2003, leaving towns destroyed, families ripped apart and many dead. More than 1.4 million people have been left homeless.
