Ireland's Robbie Heffernan has finished in 8th place in the Men's 20K Walk at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The athlete from Togher in Cork was leading with five kilometres to go, but was outgunned in a tight finish.

He kept up a steady pace to finish inside the top 10 in eighth place, clocking a time of 1 hour 20.36 minutes.
