HSE to review staff actions in Savita treatment

The HSE is to review the actions of all staff members involved in the care of Savita Halappanavar, who died in University Hospital Galway last October.

At a special meeting of the West - Northwest Hospitals Group, the HSE discussed the recommendations of the recent HIQA investigation into her death, as well as the coroner's inquest and the HSE's own inquiry.

The HSE said it has already implemented some of the recommendations, including educating staff over the treatment and management of sepsis, and better communication between doctors.

In a statement, the HSE said all staff involved in her care will be reviewed and if it's appropriate they will be referred to the Irish Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Board.
