Dame Helen Mirren is seething that actresses are still feted for their looks over their intelligence, revealing it took years before she was taken seriously.

Dame Helen Mirren is seething that actresses are still feted for their looks over their intelligence, revealing it took years before she was taken seriously.

The Long Good Friday star is best known for playing strong characters but reveals she struggled to make people recognise her brains and wants more done to improve the portrayal of woman on screen.

She says, "There was a time when there was an absolute inability to recognise that I had a brain and, while things are getting better, there is still more to do to better the image of women."
