Arrows have one week to enter F1 2003

Cash-strapped Formula One team Arrows have until next Friday to lodge their entry for the 2003 Formula One World Championship.

Cash-strapped Formula One team Arrows have until next Friday to lodge their entry for the 2003 Formula One World Championship.

The Leafield-based team, which did not compete in the final five races of last season because of its cash problems, must pay the entry fee by the deadline day of November 15.

But even if boss Tom Walkinshaw comes up with the money, that will not guarantee Arrows being given a place on the grid for when the new season starts next March 9.

FIA, the sport’s world governing body, have the option of excluding Arrows from the championship if it fears there will be a repeat of last season’s problems and failure to compete.

The governing body will announce the line-up of teams on December 1 and if Arrows are not included it will mean just 10 teams will take part next season.

Walkinshaw is understood to be in talks with German company Asset Trust & Partners in a last-minute bid to rescue his Oxfordshire outfit.
