Two explosives made safe in Sligo
An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe two viable improvised explosive devices (IED) in Holy Well, Co Sligo last night.
Gardaí were alerted after the objects were discovered in the Tonaphuble area of the town.
A section of the Holy Well road was blocked off to motorists.
The team arrived on scene at 9.30pm and examined the devices. One of the devices was made safe in situ by controlled explosion and the other device was made safe for transportation and brought back to a secure military location.
The scene was declared safe at 11.45pm.
The remains of the devices will be handed over to gardaí today to assist them in their investigations.
The road has now reopened this morning but gardaí remain at the scene.
This is the 118th callout and 59th viable IED made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal Teams so far this year.
