New supports proposed for victims of crime

The Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has announced two new mechanisms to help support the victims of crime.

The Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has announced two new mechanisms to help support the victims of crime.

The Victims of Crime Office and the newly reconstituted Commission for the Support of Victims will help provide co-ordination and support to victims of crime.

Meanwhile, new legislation to be published early next year will allow for changes in the provisions of victim impact statements, and would also allow for some cases to be re-opened if new evidence emerges.
