A bomb exploded among a crowd of spectators at a military parade in western Iran today, killing seven people and injuring 20 others.

A provincial governor said the attack was probably carried out by Kurdish separatists.

Most of the victims of the blast in the town of Mahabad were women who had gathered to watch the parade, one of several events around the country to mark the anniversary of the start of the Iran-Iraq war.

Provincial police chief General Mohammad Ali Nosrati said several people were killed and injured. He did not provide an exact number.
