Limerick Institute of Technology is hoping its latest efforts to keep Irish graduates at home will help boost local employment.
The college has just launched its first ever fashion incubator.
Under the plans students from all over the country will team up with industry experts who will mentor them as they set up businesses based here in Ireland.
The college has converted a former architect's office into studios for the aspiring creators.
LIT President Maria Hinfelaar has said the idea is to stem the flow of students leaving the country.
“We have 30 graduates coming out of our fashion design programme every year and quite a number of them over the years have left Ireland and are working internationally in the fashion industry extremely successfully, really making big names for themselves," Ms Hinfelaar said.
“And we would like to keep more of them here, to still operate globally but to create employment locally.”
