Reilly expecting 'tough negotiations' over free GP care plan

The Health Minister James Reilly says he expects tough negotiations with doctors on the payment structure of his free GP care plan.

He is aiming to have the system introduced in 2015.

He faced questions at an all-party Oireachtas committee today on how medics who currently charge over €50 per visit will be persuaded to come on board.

Minister Reilly says he knows he will have to speak to representatives of the groups involved, but one way of dealing with the situation would be to allow practice nurses see patients in advance to determine whether they need to see a doctor at all.
