The British government minister in charge of community relations in the North has announced a funding package aimed at developing communities in north Belfast.

Speaking during a visit to a cross-community youth scheme in the city today, Des Browne said the funding will help local people to develop the skills they need to best represent their areas.

He added that dialogue remains the template for dealing with long-term difficulties.

"Concerns about community safety can only be solved in the long term by both communities working together in an atmosphere of trust and confidence."
