McManaman: Blues takeover going 'very slowly'

The Carson Yeung takeover of Birmingham appears to be off after his adviser Steve McManaman revealed there was little chance of meeting the City board’s deadline to complete a St Andrews buyout.

The Carson Yeung takeover of Birmingham appears to be off after his adviser Steve McManaman revealed there was little chance of meeting the City board’s deadline to complete a St Andrews buyout.

Former England international McManaman has been advising Hong Kong businessman Yeung on his possible takeover of the Premier League club, but progress on the deal has slowed to a snail’s pace.

Birmingham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have been adamant they will not extend the December 23 deadline they gave Yeung to get the deal done.

And McManaman told the Sunday Mirror: “The takeover is rolling along, but very slowly.

“I don’t think there’s much chance of being done by this month’s deadline. If anything it is more likely to be done in February or March from what I have heard.

“I honestly don’t know whether that will be too late for David Sullivan and the Gold brothers.”

Gold said earlier this week the odds on Yeung completing a buyout had “lengthened considerably”.
