Rangers our for revenge

Paul Le Guen has warned Inverness Caledonian Thistle that Rangers will be gunning for revenge in tonight’s Bank of Scotland Premier League clash.

Paul Le Guen has warned Inverness Caledonian Thistle that Rangers will be gunning for revenge in tonight’s Bank of Scotland Premier League clash.

The Gers boss was furious when his side slumped to a 1-0 defeat to the Highland side at Ibrox earlier in the season.

That loss came at one of the lowest points of Rangers’ season and they are determined to show they have finally turned the corner when they face Inverness again.

Recent results would certainly suggest they are finally on track after a less than inspiring start to Le Guen’s Ibrox career.

Seven points from the last three matches against Hibernian, Celtic and Aberdeen means confidence is high in the Rangers dressing room.

And they are determined to keep their run going against a team who appear to have gone into decline in recent weeks.

Le Guen said: “The first game against them was a very bad game for us. I remember that it was difficult for us to recover after that game.

“But this match now gives us an opportunity for revenge. I was told when I arrived that Inverness are able to do well on their own pitch.

“But we have revenge to take and we must anticipate this game will be tough, perhaps in a different context but we must respond well in this game.”

Rangers face their second lengthy trip north in the space of four days following Saturday’s 2-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

And Le Guen has urged his players to show the same effort and determination at the Caledonian Stadium.

He added: “The game is never won and we must have the same commitment, otherwise we will be punished. But we are able to do well.”

The win over Aberdeen boosted Rangers hopes of claiming the runners-up place in the SPL – and bagging the Champions League spot that comes with finishing second.

Defeat would have seen them fall five points behind the Dons.

Instead, goals from Nacho Novo and Libor Sionko allowed them to move a point ahead of Jimmy Calderwood’s men despite a late Steve Lovell strike.

Le Guen said: “The second Champions League place will be decided at the end of the season but this result is a good step towards it.”
