An explosion in a house in an Israeli village killed two people today as police investigated the possibility that the blast was caused by a suicide bomber.

The explosion collapsed a house in the agricultural village of Kfar Yavetz near the central town of Netanya. The town is a few miles away from the West Bank.

“At the moment we are investigating all possibilities, but there are signs that this was an attack,” said central region police commander Amihai Shai.

Palestinian groups last week declared a ceasefire with Israel and if the explosion is proved to be a suicide attack, it would be a major blow to the fragile truce.

While the truce has been accepted by most Palestinian groups, some renegade groups within Yasser Arafat’s Fatah faction have rejected the ceasefire. Last week, one of these groups claimed responsibility for shooting dead a Bulgarian construction worker near the West Bank town of Jenin

The body of a woman, the 65-year-old owner of the house, and a young man were pulled from the rubble of the collapsed house today.

“The second body was that of a young man,” Shai said. ”The way the body was dispersed looks like what we know from previous (suicide) attacks.”

Shai said a laboratory was examining the remains to verify whether it was a suicide attack.
