Green Party election candidate Patricia McKenna today paid tribute to new party leader John Gormley.

"I congratulate my long-time friend and colleague John Gormley and wish him every encouragement in his new role as party leader," she said. "I look forward to working closely with him and supporting him in whatever way I can.

"I am very pleased that over 35% of party members voted for me. It is a very encouraging outcome and indicates that there is a body of feeling within the Green Party that would share my concerns about the need to ensure that we remain a vibrant, independent party with our own policies and ideals."
