An American man has been arrested for biting a snake in California.

David Senk is thought to have bitten the python in an unprovoked attack, which resulted in the 54-year-old man being charged with unlawfully maiming or mutilating a reptile, according to Sacramento police.

When asked why he attacked the reptile, he replied: "I get drunk, I get crazy. I don't know. I've been an alcoholic for a long time."

David was found by police lying on the floor with blood on his face after the officials responded to a report of an assault.

He could not recall the incident but admitted he felt "horrible as hell about it".
