Firefighters rescue couple from flat blaze

A couple in their 50s were taken to hospital today after they were rescued from a fire in a flat in Co Down.

A couple in their 50s were taken to hospital today after they were rescued from a fire in a flat in Co Down.

The blaze took place on Church Street in Warrenpoint at around 1am.

The Fire and Rescue Service said the couple had a lucky escape.

“Our crews found a well-developed fire with two people reported missing in a first floor flat,” a spokesman said.

“We extinguished the fire and searched the flat. The couple were found in the rear bedroom and were carried to safety. Both suffered severe smoke inhalation.”
